I never would have imagined a 5-star restaurant on a gorgeous beach in Maui would even have, or need, a happy hour. This restaurant and lounge sits a top a small lagoon right next to the beach. Since it was November when I was there, the sun was setting during happy hour….what a spectacular view!
Humuhumunukunukuapuaa Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge is located in the Grand Wailea Resort and is right next to the beach.
When I was at the bar ordering drinks, the bartender suggested their Pau Hana Happy Hour special which is 50% off house wines, domestic beers and well drinks. I was really surprised that the brands of liquor they use as their well brands would be considered call brands in most bars. The happy hour is from 5:00 pm to 6 pm. The restaurant also has a happy hour special and it is called the Ono Ono which is 50% off any hand-caught fresh Lobster entrée, but this special is between 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm.
The Seared Day Boat Scallops appetizer (served on a crispy parsnip potato cake with citrus segments and basil) was amazing! The scallops were seared perfectly and were juicy and sweet tasting.
And in case you are wondering about the nearly unpronounceable name of this restaurant: It is the name of Hawaii’s official state fish, the reef trigger fish or “humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa” in native Hawaiian language. According to Wikipedia, it translates roughly to “fish that grunts like a pig” for the sound it makes when cornered or caught. Just in case you truly wanted to know…….
