The Migrant Restaurant in the Wailea Marriott Resort on the Island of Maui was a true surprise. After trying many restaurants on a recent trip to Maui and feeling underwhelmed, we stumbled on to this amazing restaurant on our way to the airport for our flight home. We had discovered they have a happy hour and thought we could finish our vacation watching one last sunset. The bar opens up onto a large deck overlooking the ocean. It was perfect – a beautiful sunset and amazing food.
We tried several dishes and everything was delicious. There were two dishes that really stood out for me: the Pancit Noodles and The Bottom Of The Plate Lunch.
Pancit Noodles – Oahu Noodle Factory Canton Noodles, Roasted Pork Belly, Black Tiger Shrimp, Market Vegetables, Garlic Chives & Fried Garlic
How could you go wrong with pork belly and shrimp?
The Bottom Of The Lunch Plate – Shaved Kula Head Cabbage, Mac Salad puree, Short Rib “Chew”, Warm Kale Dressing
This cabbage salad was mind blowing. I never had a salad that had such an intense beef flavor. I thought I was actually eating a braised beef dish.
Nice job Chef! On a trip that I thought would be filled with many new “food finds” but wasn’t, your food made this trip worthwhile.
I want to go back already (just two months later) and try more of this incredible food. But it looks like I might have to wait, or at least keep my eyes peeled for more news updates on this restaurant. Various internet sites are reporting that the Migrant is closing down on May 15th but it will reopen at another location in Maui.
I think that once you try Chef Sheldon Simeon’s food, you may want to move to Maui. I certainly do!
