I remember years ago when I first started as a young bartender and a customer ordered a Cuba Libre. I had no idea what she was asking for, so it took a minute for us to get on the same page. (I kind of felt like Tom Cruise in that movie “Cocktail”) When she explained that it was simply Rum and Coke with a lime, I suddenly realized that this has been my drink of choice for years. I just had always known it as “Bacardi and Coke” because I drank it without the lime. I’ve since learned that the classic Cuba Libre is known in most English-speaking countries as “Rum and Coke” where the lime may or may not be added. My white rum of choice is Bacardi, but any brand of rum will do for the recipe.
