A simple cocktail sauce can be made at home with ingredients that most cooks have in their refrigerators. Ketchup and horseradish are the two main ingredients. You can add some additional flavor with lemon and Worcestershire sauce, but in any case I think it tastes much fresher than a store bought sauce. It keeps well in the fridge for several weeks.
I’ve also seen some cocktail sauces in steak house restaurants where the sauce has been flavored with liquors, like cognac or Jack Daniels whisky. Try a little of your favorite liqueur in the sauce and see what you can create.
